This monograph presents an investigation into the factors influencing the responsiveness of the hotel business towards the emerging issues i.e. business environment and social responsibility. The investigation uncovered the influence and significance of the Business Environment and Social Responsibility (BESR) concept on the sector in a chosen context; identified and analysed the existing motivations and obstacles that have shaped hotel receptiveness towards environmental and social responsibilities; and evaluated the extent of responsible initiatives by participating hotels.
Drawing upon both qualitative and quantitative sources of information, the conclusions of the investigation shed light on the influencing factors, barriers and practices of BESR in the hotel sector. The study draws conclusions from findings in relation to the three objective with the aim of presenting an overall picture of hotels’ responsiveness to environmental and social responsibility. The study also assesses future development of the hotel sector’s environmental and social responsibility in Malaysia by suggesting possible implications of the findings.
